At SRCFLP Beat Lab, we explore DTM, beatmaking, and sound design through Ableton Live—not just by learning techniques, but by developing your own way of listening, creating, and expressing yourself.
Through making, sharing, and exchanging feedback, you'll gradually discover your own creative process and relationship with sound.
Here, expanding the way you experience music is just as important as learning the tools.

Beatmaker / audiovisual artist
A Japanese American artist raised in Los Angeles from the age of two, he began making music within LA's diverse musical landscape and multicultural environment. He relocated to Okinawa in 2023, where he is currently based.
During university, he began DJing, producing music, organizing events, and building toward the launch of his independent label. Through an internship at Ubiquity Records, he gained insight into the music industry while developing his own creative practice. Alongside his work as a producer and label founder, he performed as a MC/rapper for audiences of tens of thousands, refining his craft through both production and live performance.
As a beatmaker, he has performed at influential underground events including Low End Theory, a landmark of LA's beat culture. Drawing from Hip Hop, Bass Music, Minimal Techno, and Experimental Sounds, he continues to develop a distinctive sonic identity. In recent years, he has presented immersive performances combining music, visuals, and spatial design in Boston, Tokyo, and beyond—centered around his signature Machine-live approach using Ableton Live, samplers, and synthesizers.
He is currently a researcher at the MIT Spatial Sound Lab, where he studies spatial sound with cultural anthropologist and lab director Ian Condry. Alongside his research, he continues to create and present audiovisual performances, projection mapping works, and media art installations.
Studio Location
SRCFLP Beat Lab is based in Maeda, central Okinawa, near the famous Blue Cave. Surrounded by the sea and nature, it's a place designed for focused, uninterrupted creative work.
The studio is equipped exclusively with gear I've selected and relied on through more than twenty years of producing and performing.
From samplers, analog and digital synthesizers, and semi-modular instruments to vinyl, CDs, and cassette tapes used as sampling sources, every piece has earned its place through real-world production and live performance.

Beat Lab is more than a place to learn Ableton Live. It's also a space to explore ideas shaped by underground music culture, together with the perspective I've developed through performing around the world—and how those experiences can inform your own approach to music production and live performance.
Beyond software and technique, it's a place to explore rhythm, sound, performance, and creative expression.

- Q. Can I join if I'm new to DTM?
- A. Yes. You'll learn from the basics of Ableton Live, so first-time DTM and music production participants are welcome.
- Q. Can I join with no beatmaking experience?
- A. Absolutely. You'll learn beatmaking fundamentals and progress at your own pace.
- Q. What software do you use?
- A. We use Ableton Live. Lessons are structured around Ableton Live.
- Q. What gear do I need?
- A. Please bring a computer that can run Ableton Live. You don't need expensive gear from the start. We can recommend equipment and how to get started as needed.
- Q. Do I need to buy Ableton Live?
- A. Yes. We recommend having Ableton Live for ongoing production. If you're unsure which edition to choose, we're happy to advise.
- Q. Can I join with a friend?
- A. Of course. Joining with someone who shares your goals helps with motivation. Giving each other feedback on works can also lead to new discoveries.
- Q. Can I participate online?
- A. Yes. Online participation via Google Meet is available.
- Q. What kinds of music is this for?
- A. We focus on beatmaking, Bass Music, Hip Hop, Electronic Music, and Experimental Sound, but the skills apply to music production with Ableton Live in general.
- Q. Is there an age limit?
- A. No. Participants range from elementary school students to working adults.
- Q. Can I use Mac or Windows?
- A. Yes. Any environment where Ableton Live runs is fine.
- Q. Do you offer a trial lesson?
- A. Yes. We offer a 60-minute trial lesson for ¥4,000. Through a mini lesson and consultation, we'll clarify your current level, goals, and the expression you're aiming for. If you enroll in a course after the trial, the ¥4,000 will be applied toward tuition.
